One of the best parts of the Festival was the numerous small, "informal" concerts that would happen on a flattened sand dune, out in the open when the main stage wasn't in use. Since the Festival in the Desert is a Tuareg festival, these acts on the "sand stage," as far as I saw, were all various Tuareg groups or at least, definitely not your Afropop variety.
